I made a doll in the likeness of a sweet friend as a gift. She is made from a 4 inch tall artist's mannequin, modified with a bit of paperclay over the head to make it rounder, and a bit of shaping to the hands and feet. Cheap acrylic paint.
Hair is wool yarn, glued to the head and ending in a little braid in back. The woman it's based on henna's her hair, so I thought it was a good likeness in color.
The clothes are of the popular SCA viking apron dress style. The turtle brooches are made of brass sheeting that has been cut, shaped, and glued to sewing pins with plastic heads. The 'bandana' is a bit too tiny to actually tie closed, so it is pinned in place instead. All clothing is completely removable, none was glued in place.
The little water bottle (in the style of an old 2L soda bottle) and the plate of fruit were both made of paperclay, then painted with acrylic.
